Intensive 1-day course, with changeable content to suit corporate client requirements. Many mine sites will require certain job roles to have completed 4WD training.
The standard RMS 4WD course runs for one full day and covers subjects such as:
- Relevant theory - defensive driving, gravel road conditions, power, posture, JHA's
- Pre-start checks, wheel change, equipment inspection
- Different driving conditions, including onsite gravel roads
- Various terrain including hills, sand and quarry / pit ethics
- Recovery techniques
- Demonstration of Snatch strap recovery and safety issues
- Demonstration of Exhaust jack recovery and safety issues
- On road drive - sealed and unsealed - assessed
- Emergency braking, including pulse braking
Training is conducted at the RMS' training quarry with theory completed at either the Wangara or Joondalup training branch. The RMS training quarry has many kilometres of 4WD tracks with varying degrees of difficulty as well as a dedicated snatch strap recovery area.
Upon successful completion, participants will be issued nationally recognised units of competency: RIIVEH201A Operate light vehicle or RIIVEH305A Operate and maintain a four wheel drive vehicle.
