Becoming a qualified Heavy Vehicle Driving Instructor can open up many exciting and rewarding career opportunities. Indeed, RMS is frequently looking to take on new driving instructors at any number of our metropolitan training branches. This 5-Day course has been specifically designed to assist candidates with the practical and theoretical skills required to pass the Department of Transport practical test, prior to becoming a qualified instructor.
The course has a limited intake of only 2 students so you are guaranteed maximum time with our highly skilled instructors.

Day 1 - Theory (Classroom)
Day 2 - Required Driving Skills (Truck Driving)
Day 3 - Required Driving and Testing Skills (Truck Driving)
Day 4 - Observation of actual lessons being undertaken (Truck Driving)
Day 5 - Your DPI Practical Test in an RMS truck that you have now become familiar with
Preparation to sit your practical driving instructor test. When you pass this you will be issued with your blue book and be a qualified heavy vehicle driving instructor.
- Must have held a HR or HC licence for a period of not less than 4 years
- Apply to the Department of Transport for a permit to become a driving instructor, this will also require:
- A medical
- A national police clearance
- A police traffic report showing no outstanding infringements
- Complete a Department of Transport, 100+ question theory test
In order to be best prepared for the Department of Transport theory test it is highly recommended that you have studied the Road Traffic Code 2000 handbook which will be supplied to you by the Department of Transport.
